What this site is
The School Gate is a free reference published by AutoLeGen about the policies eight Australian education departments apply to external NDIS providers seeking access to government school grounds. Using the site means accepting these terms.
This is not legal advice, and it is not advice about your situation
Everything here is general information. It is not legal advice, not professional advice, and not a substitute for reading the department policy that applies to you or getting advice about your own circumstances. Decisions about access to a school are made by the relevant principal or department under their own policy, not by us.
We are not affiliated with anyone we quote
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, connected to, or acting for any Australian education department, the National Disability Insurance Agency, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, or Speech Pathology Australia. Nothing on this site is an official publication of any of them, and nothing here has been approved by any of them.
Every policy quoted on this site belongs to the body that published it. We quote and link to those documents so you can read them in full. We do not reproduce them in their entirety, and we claim no ownership of them.
Accuracy, and its limits. Read this one
We fetched and read every source we cite, and we show the date each source was published or last updated beside the claim it supports. Those dates span 2022 to 2026, and the underlying policies change without telling us.
Two jurisdictions are marked on this site as unestablished : the Northern Territory, whose provider documentation we could not retrieve, and the Australian Capital Territory, which publishes no provider-access procedure we could locate. Where a figure is missing from our comparisons it means the number is not published in the sources we read, not that the requirement is zero.
Every source on this site governs government schools. Catholic and independent school systems set their own policies, which we have not read and which this site does not describe.
Before you rely on anything here, check the linked source and the date it carries. We make no warranty that the information is current, complete, or applicable to your situation, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on it. Nothing in these terms excludes any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
The one-pager
If you give us your details we will send you a summary document. It is a convenience copy of material already on this site, subject to the same limits, and it is free. We may contact you about our software; you can tell us to stop at any time and we will.
Our content
The words, design and compilation on this site are ours. You are welcome to read, print and share pages, and to quote us with attribution and a link. Do not republish the site wholesale, scrape it, or present our compilation as your own.
Acceptable use
Use the site for your own professional purposes. Do not attempt to interfere with it, to gain access to any part of it that is not published, or to submit anything through the form that is unlawful or that contains someone else's personal or clinical information.
Links out
We link to department pages and other external sources. We do not control them and we are not responsible for their content or availability.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of that state have jurisdiction.
Changes
If we change these terms we will change the date at the top.
